Turn the radio off with the power button.
Press and down the select button (middle of the dial knob) until a menu pops up.
Go into the "Open" section of the menu.
Navigate the message using the left and right arrow keys, use the dial knob to change the character, and be sure to click down the select button on dial knob then hit the ESC button to exit.
